Situated right at the entrance of the Tory Channel and of historical significance, this property is a 'true sounds' holiday. Smell the kelp from the sea, look out into the Cook Strait and have a golden sand beach, right at your doorstep

(Fishermans Bay is on the same property as the Fishermans Bay Cottage and the two can be rented together or separately)

The Perano Whaling Station in the Tory Channel was the last whaling station to close down  in NZ in 1964. This historical DOC site is open to the public with parts of the old buildings, boilers and large freezer spaces still standing.  Whales have been protected in NZ waters since 1978

We have had a fabulous week at Fishermans Bay. The house was great and had everything we needed. We weren't so lucky with the fishing, but it was lovely sitting on the wharf trying to catch one. Thanks for everything.

Thank you so much for a wonderful holiday. Such a gorgeous spot and our sons loved exploring the old whaling Station on the days we weren’t out fishing! They’re already planning their next holiday up there and who they want to come with us next time!

Thank you both so much for making the Fishermans Bay available and the exceptional assistance with setting us up.The house and cottage were clean and tidy when we arrived. Thanks for that. We’d really love to come back again. My enthusiasm for the place rubbed off on my brother who has now booked it for a couple of weeks.

Having just enjoyed a traditional 'Sounds' holiday I am more than happy to recommend a stay at the historic old whaling station. Well sheltered from NW winds our children aged 2 and 3 delighted in endless play on the secluded sandy beach and explored rock pools at low tide. We sat back to relax and watched the ferries passing while enjoying all the comforts of home without the interruptions of TV and phone. We needed to bring little more than food and a few clothes as there was a wonderful supply of books with toys and puzzles for the children. With the added interest of the boat trip down; the whaling station to explore; Wekas to feed on the lawn; watching schools of herring on the incoming tide and trying to fish off the end of the 'wharf' at night, there was plenty to entertain all ages. Our one regret was not staying longer! Many thanks for a lovely short break.
